New American Spaceships

Sat, Sep 21 | 6 pm

Remember the Space Shuttle? It flew American astronauts from Florida to space for 30 years! But the last Shuttle flight was 8 years ago, when construction of the International Space Station was completed. Now there are new spaceships preparing to launch American astronauts from Florida to space yet again: Dragon; Starliner; Orion. Learn how these 21st century spaceships will pave the way for us to return to the Moon and then on to Mars. Light refreshments will be provided.

Robots on the Moon

Fri, Dec 13 | 6 pm

It’s been a long, long time since people landed on the Moon. But did you know that 4 robotic spacecraft landed on our celestial neighbor just this past year (including 2 on the far side), and another crash-landed? We’ll learn about the first robots to explore the Moon before Neil and Buzz got there, the current robots exploring the Moon right now, and plans for future robots to explore the Moon in the coming years. If the weather cooperates, we’ll also take a look at the Moon through our pretty big telescope. Light refreshments will be provided.
