THE MUSIC OF THE CIVIL WAR: DR. CHRISTIAN MCWHIRTER

Thursday, February 23, 2023

6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

In the "American Revolutionaries: Art & Disruption" Exhibition

Dr. Christian McWhirter, Lincoln Historian at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and Civil War Music scholar, will be the second installment in the Art Bridges funded series of American Revolutionaries: Americana. Dr. McWhirter will talk about his book Battle Hymns, wherein he explores the role of music in Civil War America. Dr. McWhirter explains that although music was a significant part of American culture in the antebellum period, the explosion of amateur and professional music during the Civil War was unparalleled, and its popularization during the war had a lasting impact throughout the decades that followed.

This event is FREE to the public!
