Join us at the Peoria Riverfront Museum to experience an evening with one of the greatest first ladies in American history: Abigail Adams.
Adams, as portrayed by premier American political reenactor Leslie Goddard, will give a lively speech in the museum's Giant Screen Theater, followed by a meet and greet experience where you can come face to face with one of the women that helped found our nation.
Historian and performer Leslie Goddard brings Abigail Adams to life in a captivating reenactment presented in connection with the Promise of Liberty exhibition. Through Adams’ own words, which can be viewed in the exhibition, and experiences in early American history, the performance shines a powerful light on the vital role women played in shaping the nation’s founding ideals.

Abigail Adams was the wife and closest advisor of John Adams, the second president of the United States, and the mother of John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States. She is widely considered to be an influential figure in the founding of the United States, and was both the first second lady and second first lady of the United States, although such titles were not used at the time. She and Barbara Bush are the only two women in American history who were both the wife of a U.S. president and the mother of another U.S. president.
