AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY CURATORS: POP-UP DISCUSSION IN THE DOME PLANETARIUM

Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. | FREE EVENT

Dr. Denton Ebel and Dr. Kate Kiseeva will be sharing two talks on their specialties/current areas of study, under the beautiful glow of the Dome Planetarium's starscape.

Enjoy Dr. Kate Kiseeva's talk on Diamonds and their Inclusions, and Dr. Denton Ebel discussing Meteorites, and the Origin of the Solar System.

Dr. Denton Ebel serves as the curator of the American Museum of Natural History's meteorite collection. He uses this collection to better understand early solar system processes such as planet formation. Part of their mission is to make meteorite samples available for research by sciences across the world! Ebel considers collections-based research vital to the exploration of space and a better understanding of our origins.

Dr. Kate Kiseeva Kate Kiseeva is an experimental petrologist and mineralogist with a strong background in geology and geochemistry who studies processes that occur so deep within the Earth that they cannot be observed directly. Dr. Kiseeva uses laboratory experiments and natural samples to explore these otherwise hidden processes, with a focus on mineral inclusions in diamonds brought to the surface by a special type of volcano known as a kimberlite.
