Little hands will love squishing and molding, painting and creating their own ceramic figurines! Each session will begin with a story and finish with building something that relates to what we’ve read. Children will be able to take home at least two completed pieces (glazed and fired) at the end of each session!

Pre-Calligraphy
Fridays, September 14 -October 5 | 1:15-2:15 pm

This class will introduce your little one to Chinese Calligraphy, and open them up to a world of penmanship! Your child will learn to work with brush and ink and gain first-hand experience into Chinese calligraphy. The children will be taught fundamental skills on brush grasp and proper Chinese character formation- right to left and top to bottom. Your little one will love using using the ink while developing motor skills, spatial perception, and learning about the Chinese culture.

Dash Robots
Fridays, September 14 -October 5 | 1:15-2:15 pm

Dash is a real robot that can see, talk, dance, and respond to your voice! Dash teaches coding and robotics in a simple way to reach students of all ages. Help Dash complete obstacle courses, launch projectiles at targets, and sketch pictures while learning computer language fundamentals.

Astronomy 101: See the Seasons
Fridays, September 14 -October 5 | 1:15-2:15 pm

Students will meet in the Planetarium each week to see and understand how the Earth’s motions through space affect what we see in the sky and experience on the ground. In the first class they will set-up their own special time-lapse, pinhole camera to photograph the Sun’s changing path across the sky, to be retrieved during the last class. Adults are encouraged to stay, particularly for the first and last classes, to help students construct their time-lapse cameras and retrieve their photographs; the activities and presentations are likely to be of interest to them as well!

Ancient Western Art and History

Painting and Drawing

Pick up a paintbrush and a pencil, and join us in exploring the basic principles of art and color. Local artist and printmaker Nana Ekow will guide students in developing and refining their basic painting and drawing skills, and teach new techniques and styles. All skill levels are welcome.

Intro to Chinese Calligraphy
Fridays, September 14 - October 5 | 2:30-3:30 pm

This class offers a basic introduction to Chinese calligraphy; traditional brush/ink work in writing; and cultural information expressed through the art forms. Through hands-on practice, students study the various techniques of some traditional Chinese characters. At the same time, students have a chance to immerse themselves in Chinese culture by learning the story of each character developed over many centuries in China. Instruction will be in English. No prior knowledge of Chinese is necessary.

Elementary Pottery
Fridays, September 14 - October 5 | 2:30-3:30 pm

Students will explore the artistic medium of clay through hand building techniques, wheel work, and glazing. Students will take home at least three completed projects, and will walk away with a better understanding of the building, firing, and glazing processes. No previous experience is necessary, and students are welcome to take this class several times as projects will continue to change.

Museum Studies: Exhibit Design

Have you ever wondered how a Museum puts together an exhibit? This Exhibit Design class will have students examine font, color, lighting, graphics, interactive elements, object labels, and object placement. Each element changes the way people interact and experience an exhibit, which they will put to the test by examining our Museum’s exhibits and making their own exhibit “storyboard.”

3D Printing Challenge - SOLD OUT!

Can you design and build solutions for the engineering challenge? Print your design out and put it to the test! In this 4-week workshop you will learn the basics of computer-aided design. No experience required! Each week, participants will be able to take home the previous week’s build.
