Intro to Chinese Calligraphy 
Fridays, April 13-May 4, 1:15-2:15 pm

This class offers a basic introduction to Chinese calligraphy; traditional brush/ink work in writing; and cultural information expressed through the art forms. Through hands-on practice, students study the various techniques of some traditional Chinese characters. At the same time, students have a chance to immerse themselves in Chinese culture by learning the story of each character developed over many centuries in China. Instruction will be in English. Mad Scientists

Astronomy 101: Celestial Motions - CANCELLED

Calling all space geeks: if you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the universe, this is your chance! Join us as we embark on an investigation of celestial motion! Students will first learn about the Earth’s rotation and its impact on our daily sky and our seasons. The second half of the class will focus on the movements of our moon and the other planets in our solar system! Hands on activities and demonstrations will accompany the lessons. 3D Printing Challenge

Can you design and build solutions for the engineering challenge? Print your design out and put it to the test! In this 4-week workshop you will learn the basics of computer-aided design using TinkerCAD. No experience required! Each week, participants will be able to take home the previous week’s build. Elementary Pottery
Fridays April 13-May 4 | 2:30-3:30 pm

Students will explore the artistic medium of clay through hand building techniques, wheel work, and glazing. Students will take home at least three completed projects, and will walk away with a better understanding of the building, firing, and glazing processes. Illinois River Science - CANCELLED

The Illinois River is home to a wide variety of creatures. Students will learn how rivers flow and change by working with the Stream Table. The class will measure water quality and identify some of the tiny “cute” critters that live in healthy river and pond water. Dave Grebner: Museum Educator

This class will accompany our Celebrate Illinois: 200 Years in the Land of Lincoln exhibition. Each week students will explore a section of the exhibition and learn all about it with hands on activities. We will learn about science, culture, and history all specific to Illinois.
