Yom HaShoah | Holocaust Remembrance Day

Join with the Jewish Federation of Peoria, the Peoria Holocaust Memorial committee and the community in this important virtual event. The Jewish Federation encourages students ages 10+ to attend as well, as they are the last generation who will hear these stories firsthand.

Grinnell College Professor Emeritus Harold Kasimow spent 19 months and five days hiding from the Nazis in a pit underneath a barn in modern-day Belarus during the Holocaust. The Poland native was only three when the German army took control of his home near what is now Vilnius, Lithuania. There were 1 million Jewish children in Poland in 1938, he one of only about 5,000 who survived.
