UNCOVERED | Feed Sacks: The Colorful History of a Frugal Fabric
A Conversation with Linzee Kull McCray of the International Quilt Museum
Saturday, March 19, 2022 | 2 PM | TICKETS
Gilmore Auditorium
Join us for an in-person presentation by author and International Quilt Museum board member Linzee Kull McCray. Based on her book of the same name, she will share the story of feed sacks. Her interest in cotton commodity bags is three-fold: like many quilters, she love the thousands of patterns that reflect fashion and design from the 1930s through the early 1960s. She is fascinated by the way feed sack-salesmanship exemplifies some of the earliest marketing efforts directed towards women. Finally, she has the greatest respect for the women who re-used the sacks—they were resilient and resourceful, working long hours but still taking the time to create something beautiful for their families and homes. Her presentation will be accompanied by samples of sacks, quilt tops, and other items made from sacks.
