March 1, 2024 and March 2, 2024 at the Peoria Riverfront Museum

ALL EVENTS FREE TO THE PUBLIC!

This March, the Peoria Riverfront Museum is honored to host A'Lelia Bundles, an American journalist and news producer who is known nationally for her 2001 biography of her great-great-grandmother, Madam C.J. Walker: On Her Own Ground .

A'Lelia Bundles will be in-person at the Peoria Riverfront Museum March 1, 2024 and March 2, 2024 to discuss Madam C.J. Walker's and Annie Turnbo Malone’s complicated relationship, their successful companies and their enduring legacies. She also challenges the myths created by Netflix’s Self Made

On March 1, 2024, for the first time in history two descendants of Madam C.J. Walker and Annie Malone will be present to discuss the way that their relatives are remembered: in media, in literature, and on the most popular streaming service in the nation, Netflix itself.

James Agbara Bryson, descendant and historian of Annie Malone as well as A'Lelia Bundles herself will be in attendance and participating in a Q&A segment of the greater overall lecture by Bundles: Mentors, Rivals and Sisterfriends: Madam C.J. Walker and Annie Turnbo Malone.

Now, hear Bundles' perspective on the way that her writing and her family's history was depicted by the popular streaming service, and hear her uplift the legacy of Annie Malone, in addition to Madam C.J. Walker. This conversation will have a brief selection of scenes from the Netflix mini-series, and a discussion between Bundles herself and lead curator of museum exhibition Life and Legacy of Annie Malone , Everley Davis.
