PRESTON JACKSON'S BRONZEVILLE TO HARLEM: AN AMERICAN STORY | THE DOCUMENTARY

Playing on the Giant Screen Theater every day at 4 p.m.

Preston Jackson’s sculptural installation, Bronzeville to Harlem: An American Story , is a gem in the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s collection. Depicting innumerable locations, people, and events in our nation’s history, there is so much story to tell that can’t be covered on the museum walls through labels. Bronzeville to Harlem, the documentary, will illuminate Preston’s genius, highlight stories captured in bronze, share the impact that this work of art has had over its thirty years of construction and the inspiration it will continue to spread for years to come.

This documentary, directed by Diana Quiñones Rivera follows Preston's art through central Illinois and beyond, as she captures the artist, his vision, and his life right here in Peoria, Illinois. Preston's masterwork captures the culture and movement of the Great Migration, as well as the subsequent boom in art that left an indelible imprint on our nation.

Preston Jackson himself is a local artist, whose studio resides in Downtown Peoria. Voted one of the 'Best Illinois Artists of All Time' in 2018, Jackson's works in sculpture have traveled nationally, and he has received a Regional Emmy for hosting "Legacy in Bronze," a television show featuring his work.
